Radha Rani holds a special place in the hearts of Vaishnavas. Mystical, because even Krishna, the complete avatar of Narayana, is believed to be under her control. Mysterious, because the holiest Vaishnava text, the Shreemad Bhagavat Purana, doesn’t mention her at all.
Interestingly, when we turn to Shaiva texts like the Shiva Purana, the creation of the universe itself is linked to an episode where Shiva and Parvati create GoLoka, a cosmic realm. It’s in GoLoka that Krishna, the supreme consciousness, and Radha, the life force, share a relationship of transcendental love.
Puranic beliefs tell us that this divine realm manifested on Earth in the Vraja region towards the end of Dwapara Yuga, with Krishna’s divine pastimes alongside Radha.
To truly understand their Leela, Bhakti, or faith, is essential. Without it, it’s impossible to grasp the depth of their divine love. While their love is most vibrant in their youth, they are separated when Krishna leaves Vrindavan for Mathura. This separation, unlike that of Sita and Rama, is not caused by an external agent but is part of a cosmic curse linked to the creation of GoLoka.
The BrahmaVaivarta Purana beautifully describes Radha’s agony as she waits for Krishna, who she experiences only in her dreams. When they finally meet again after 100 years at Siddhashrama, Krishna’s 16,008 wives realize why their beloved chants Radha’s name — her devotion to him is pure and unparalleled.
For devotees, reading about the eternal bond between Radha and Krishna is a deeply emotional experience. Despite the passage of time, their divine love remains as fresh as it was in their youth.
Radha Rani is considered the presiding goddess of VrajaMandala, and at Dhaama planning and services LLP, we take pride in offering meaningful pilgrimages to Vraja Dhaama for all devotees.
On this sacred night of Radha Ashtami, may we seek the blessings of the most merciful Radha Rani.
Radhe Shyaam!
